Americans with Disabilities Act

  • Salt Lake County believes in, supports and complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act. We provide equal access to all County services, programs and activities. We also provide equal employment opportunities to all current employees and job applicants without regard to physical or mental disability.

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), gives civil rights protection to people with disabilities. These rights are similar to the rights given to people based on race, color, sex, national origin, age and religion. It guarantees individuals with disabilities an equal opportunity in public accommodations, employment, transportation, both state and local government services and telecommunications.

Title II regulations of the ADA cover "public entities" like Salt Lake County. "Public Entities" include any state or local government and any of its departments, divisions or agencies. All activities, services and programs are covered under this act including, state legislatures, town meetings, police and fire services, motor vehicle licensing and employment.

Mary Ann Cowen, ADA Program Coordinator, is available to ensure compliance with the physical and program accessibility requirements of the ADA. Please call 385-468-0584 with any questions.
